Straight Run Naphtha
S/R Naphtha obtained from the atmospheric distillation of crude oil is used as feedstock by catalytic reforming and cracking units.
Naphthas with a high Paraffins content have a higher value as feedstock of steam cracking units where the satured hydrocarbons in the naphtha are broken down in smaller ones by diluting the feedstock in steam and heating the mixture. The end products obtained are alkenes/olefins like ethylene and propylene. Naphthas with a high content of aromatics and naphthanes are suitable of being used as feedstock, previous hydrotreatment process to remove sulphur and nitrogen, by isomerization and catalytic cracking units for the production of gasoline blending components, benzene and xylenes.
